Best Practices for Removing Malware from an Infected Computer
Here is a list of best practices that you can follow to remove malware from an infected computer:
- Back up all your important documents and data.
- Update the Anti-Virus software installed on the computer. After updating the software, stop and then start the program to ensure that it is running with the latest Anti-Virus definitions.
- Unplug the network cable.
- Close any open Web browser windows.
- Log on with administrative privileges.
- Disable System Restore.
- Delete the temporary files and clear your browser’s cache.
- Restart your computer in the Safe Mode.
- Configure the Anti-Virus to take appropriate action and then scan the computer.
- Write down the path of the infected file.
- Compress the infected file, add a password to it, and send it to an Anti-Virus vendor.
- Turn on System Restore.
- Reboot the computer.
- Re-scan your computer to check whether the malware is present on the computer.
